Who we are

The first choice

#OneMercia

People remain our greatest asset. It is our colleagues that chart the course of Mercia’s success guided by the values that they embrace and their exceptional capabilities.

We are building a strong, inclusive culture with the amazing people that make up #OneMercia.

Our vision is to be the first choice for our investors, investees and of course our employeesMark Payton, CEO of Mercia

Crafting capital takes many hands

#OneMercia is a collective that we have defined together. Mercia’s culture of cooperation is shaped by our values that support our every decision, underpins each deal and helps to build the businesses that we invest in.

Our togetherness is reflected in the strong relationships that we develop both internally and externally, in the way we strive to share continual improvements and development through knowledge sharing, growth initiatives and outreach programmes, and the care we offer to our colleagues, customers and communities.

We are proud of our culture and share our success and brand story whereever we go.

Mercia Spirit

Empowering people within business to act for the causes that matter to them, combined with the ‘can-do’ attitude that exists among colleagues, is why we embrace Mercia Spirit.

Monies raised as a result of half-marathons run, mountains climbed, hikes mistakenly taken, quizzes hotly contested, horse races with dubious spread bets and the expert craftmanship of one colleague who made a range of carved and handcrafted wooden items all support Cancer Research UK.

The Skills Builder Partnership was another important initiative that colleagues were keen to support, designed to help students build key skills and get better prepared to enter the workplace.

Collaborating for sustained growth

O2 is a working group of engaged colleagues that supports improved business processes and offers a broader range of insights to Mercia’s senior leadership team.

Critical to the sustained success of Mercia, this group offers the benefits of its diverse opinions, ideas and points of views that might sometimes be lost in a more hierarchically business

Investing in Women Code

In order to make the most of everyone’s talents and maximise economic growth it is important that opportunities to start and grow businesses in the UK are open to everyone. Business creation and growth can increase levels of employment, increase productivity, grow the UK economy, and improve standards of living.

Therefore, Mercia is delighted to be supporting the ‘Investing in Women’s Code’, committed to sending a positive signal to female entrepreneurs who are looking for funding, support, resources and access to investment to build and grow their ambitious businesses.

At Mercia you matter

We believe that your uniqueness is your power and our strength.

Our mission is to create a workplace which reflects the communities we serve and where everyone feels they can be true to themselves in the workplace every day. We are seeking to build an inclusive, equal, culture that encourages, supports and celebrates the diverse voices of each of our team. It fuels higher performance, creativity and delivers better results for everyone but more importantly, creating an environment where everyone can do their best work is the responsible thing to do.

We recognise that we have more work to do in this area – both here at Mercia and in the wider financial service industry. We are driven by our commitment to treat everyone equally and fairly regardless of race, colour, ethnic or national origin, religion or religious beliefs, gender or gender reassignment, sexual orientation or marital status, disability, responsibility for dependents, age or experience.
